Art Media
Students will exercise and demonstrate the use of various art media and tools.

markers, pencils, brush, scissors, and palette.
Art Skills
Students will develop and practice various art skills.

Draw, cut, glue, paint, 3-D forms, printing and weaving.
Art Concepts and Art Heritage
Students will be introduced to various art concepts such as, shape, line, color, pattern, symmetry, creativity and form.
Students will be introduced to art heritage (major artists and notable art work).
LIBRARY MEDIA
Library Information
The learner will:
Become familiar with the purpose and use of the library.
Select materials for information and enjoyment.
Gain an introductory knowledge of computers as an information source.
Experience a variety of literatures, to include award winning books.
MUSIC
Singing
Students will be provided opportunities to develop and use his/her singing voice.
The learner will:
Sing a variety of songs, becoming increasingly accurate in pitch and rhythm.
Use voices expressively as they speak, chant, and sing.
Instruments
Students will be provided opportunities to play instruments.
The learner will:
Experiment with a variety of instruments and play on cue.
Keep a steady beat on unpitched instruments, pitched and unpitched.
Musical Notation
Students will be introduced to reading and writing music.
The learner will:
Clap simple rhythms (using quarter notes, quarter rests and eighth rests) from notation.
Write and use manipulatives to demonstrate music notation.
Music Concepts
Students will increase their understanding of musical concepts through movement.
The learner will:
Respond to music with a variety of body percussion, such as patschen (patting thighs with hands), snapping, clapping, stepping, etc.
Move, using a variety of steps to contrasting rhythm and styles of music (marching, tiptoeing, dancing, etc.).
Show understanding of pitch, duration, direction, register, dynamics, and tempo through directed movement.
Music Description
Students will analyze and describe music.
The learner will:
Identify tone colors (individual sound qualities) of various instruments, instrument families, and voices.
Display knowledge of simple musical terms.
Identify musical themes within a listening selection.
Performance
Students will participate in performances.
The learner will:
Present a musical program for parents.
Be given opportunities to perform in a small group setting.
Music’s Relation to Other Subjects
Students will develop an awareness of the relationship between music, the other arts and disciplines outside the arts.
The learner will:
Recognize similarities and differences in the meanings of common terms used in the various arts and in other disciplines.
Identify ways in which other subject matter is related to music.
